Patiala: After four athletes were caught for
doping, as many wrestlers who have been undergoing training
here as core group members of the 2010 Commonwealth Games also
failed tests conducted by National Anti-Doping Agency.
Three of the four wrestlers -- Mukesh Kumar, Sudhir (both
66kg freestyle) and Surender (60kg freestyle) -- have tested
positive for steroids while Birju's (96 kg greco-roman) urine
sample showed excessive amounts of a banned diuretic,
sources told.
These four wrestlers could not make it to the Indian
squad for the Commonwealth Championships beginning in
Jalandhar on Thursday but were training at National Institute
of Sports Patiala since they belonged to the CWG core group.
