Kolkata: World chess champion Viswanathan Anand on Monday expressed satisfaction over the growing interest
of children to the game in India.
"It is heartening to note than more children are taking
up chess enthusiastically and mastering the strategies of the
game. I am confident that the determination these children
show at the game will help them excel in academics as well,"
he said after felicitating the east zone winners of "NIIT Mind
Champions Academy-Chess Master 2009" here.
He said the championship has initiated a large number of
children into chess. Technology has also played a role in
reaching out to children in every corner of India for
introducing them to chess, he said.
Aditya Chakraborty from Delhi Public School here and
Bappi Deb from Teliamura Higher Secondary School were adjudged
winners of the east zone finals of the championship.
They would represent the east zone at National finals to
be held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat on December 24.
