ASI archers skip World Cup trial for CWG preparation Kolkata, July 04: The archers from Pune-based Army Sports Institute (ASI), who are busy with 2010 Commonwealth Games preparation, will not participate in the World Cup Stage IV to be held in China from August 4-9.

The ASI has decided to pull out its archers from the three-day selection trials that has began at the SAI Eastern Centre here today.

The trials will pick the Indian contingents in men's and women's recurve sections for the Shanghai event.

The decision was taken with the sole purpose of helping the archers remain fully focused on the quadrennial sporting extravaganza in October next year in Delhi, according to Lt Col Abhai Jawa, officer-in charge of archery at ASI.

"Ten of our archers figure among the CWG probables, so the strength will be depleted if they attend the selection trial for the Stage IV World Cup. Our aim is higher, so we have decided to stay out of the (World Cup) preparatory camp," Jawa said from Pune.

The ASI, which has been set up with the aim of wining Olympics medals, is currently planning various conditioning camps for the archers in different parts of country.
