Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Youth
Service and Sports, R S Chib on Tuesday said one stadium of
international standard is necessary in each district to give
impetus to sports activities in the state.
The minister was speaking after presiding over a high
level meeting here to review the pace of progress on various
stadia of the state.
He said a special implementation team is being
constituted to take up the works for construction of stadium
as per the latest norms.
"This team will undertake the construction activities in
the state to ensure that sports infrastructure, both in urban
and rural areas, is made available to players," he said.
Making special mention of renovation work of Indoor
Complex here and Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex in
Srinagar and completion of Ice Hockey Skating Ring at Leh and
Kargil, the minister said that government is committed to have
these projects taken up on priority.
Chib said that an amount of Rs 1.50 crore has been
earmarked for the construction of a sports stadium at Udhampur
and Rs 1.20 crore for a sports stadium and playing field in
Poonch district.
The meeting had a threadbare discussion on extension of
sports facilities and equipment augmentation to boost sports
culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
It also discussed construction of central pavilion and
torch pedestral block in the sports complex at Sajalta at
Udhampur, development of main ground, including an athletics
track, construction of ring drain, inner railing and chain
link fencing.
Besides, upgradation and provision of wooden flooring of
existing badminton hall and providing sports facilities at
Panchari, Chenani, Chordi, Kud, Hans, Dharmain, Moungri and
Gandh were also discussed.
Chib directed Sports Secretary to ask all the deputy
commmissioners to submit estimates and proposals for
development of sports infrastructure within 15 days for formal
sanction by the government.
