Deccan Chargers will play IPL 3: Lalit Modi Zeecric Bureau

Mumbai: Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi on Tuesday rubbished reports of the defending champions Deccan Chargers pulling out of the T20 event, saying on his Twitter feed that the Gilchrist lead outfit will ‘definitely’ play in the event that begins in March.

Earlier on Monday, Deccan Chargers had slapped a notice to the Indian Premier League after matches of the third season of the extravagant T20 tournament were shifted from Hyderabad.

The IPL authorities made substantial changes in schedule of the League under which all matches of Deccan Chargers were shifted from Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam to other centres because of the ongoing Telengana agitation in Andhra Pradesh.

Some matches not involving Deccan Chargers also had to be given a tweak in the new schedule put up on its website.

Nagpur, discarded as an option for the Mumbai Indians to play its home ties, now hosts three matches of Deccan Chargers.

The other four ties featuring the Hyderabad franchise, including the opening match, would be held in Navi Mumbai’s D Y Patil Stadium.

The Deccan Chargers’ team authorities told an Indian news channel that the IPL completely ignored security assurances given by Andhra Pradesh government and thus, the move to shift the matches out of the state was absolutely uncalled for.
