Chennai: Ace Indian Dipika Pallikal was
ousted but compatriot Siddharth Suchde celebrated his 25th
birthday with a memorable win and entered second round in the
PSA Indian Challenger Series squash tournament here today.
South African Siyoli Waters was in her elements as she
won some crunch points to scalp fourth seed Pallikal 10-12,
8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8 in a close match that lasted for 40
minutes.
On a day when five Indians, including direct entrant Ravi
Dixit (ranked 231 in PSA) bit the dust, fifth seeded Suchde
scored a straight-game win over Leo Au of Hong Kong (11-4,
11-3, 11-8) in 51 minutes.
Suchde (ranked 101) now plays second seed Robbie Temple
of England in the quarterfinal tomorrow.
Temple (ranked 63) overcame qualifier Abhishek Pradhan
(ranked 361) of India 11-6, 11-3, 11-5, while top seeded
Stephen Coppinger had to exert himself in his 52-minute fight
to get the better of qualifier Gaurav Nandrajog of India
(11-2, 6-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-5).
Meanwhile in the WISPA Challenger, it was easy going for
top seed Joshna Chinappa -- favourite to win the title,
against yesterday's lucky loser Surbhi Misra.
However, all her three counterparts -- Anwesha Reddy,
Aprajitha Balamurugan, Anaka Alankamony -? fell by the
wayside.
