Former France midfielder Fernandez close to Israel job Jerusalem: Former France midfielder Luis Fernandez said he was in advanced talks to become Israel's soccer coach.

"I will certainly go to Israel this weekend to talk to Israeli federation officials and see if we can find an agreement," Fernandez told reporters. "Talks at the moment are well advanced."

Fernandez, 50, played 60 times for France and was a member of their Euro 1984 winning squad alongside Michel Platini.

After his playing days he embarked on a coaching career that took him notably to Paris St Germain and Athletic Bilbao.
