Kuala Lumpur: Rahil Gangjee was the
highest-placed Indian golfer at tied seventh after carding a
two-under 70 in the opening round of the British Open
Championship International Final Qualifying (Asia) here on Wednesday.
Gaganjeet Bhullar, who made his British Open debut last
year, had a disappointing day as he settled for a one-over 73
to share the 22nd spot.
Among other Indians in fray, Himmat Rai and Anirban
Lahiri carded identical four-over 76 to be tied 49th.
Indian Open champion C Muniyappa had a miserable day as
he turned in a 12-over 84 to lie bottom of the heap.
Muniyappa needs a miracle to come out of the pits in the
event, the top-four finisher of which will qualify for the
oldest Major in the world.
Korea's rising star Noh Seung-yul maintained his red-hot
form to share the opening round lead with Danny Chia of
Malaysia on six-under 66.
The 18-year-old Noh, winner of the Maybank Malaysian Open
on Sunday, shot an eagle and seven birdies against a bogey and
a double bogey at the Saujana Golf and Country Club to put
himself in prime position for one of four tickets available to
the British Open in July.
