Noida: Gunning for his maiden professional
title, Gaurav Pratap Singh turned in his third successive
round of two-under 70 to take a five-shot lead after the
penultimate round of the ONGC Masters golf tournament here
today.
Gaurav's gritty performance in round three helped him
close the day with a total of six-under 210, five strokes
ahead of veteran Vijay Kumar, who carded 69 today.
"I'm doing well in all departments of the game at the
moment and am excited about the final round," Gaurav, a
25-year-old from the Noida Golf Course, said.
"My chipping was exceptional today. I made a number of
chip-putts for birdie and par today. My hitting was also
decent today as I hit it quite close to the pin on a few
occasions," said the local favourite.
"I have been in contention a few times in the past but
somehow I couldn't capitalise on those opportunities. However,
I take those missed opportunities as part of the learning
curve. The important thing is that I am much more relaxed now
and prepared to cope with the pressure of being in sight of
victory," he added.
Veteran Gaurav Ghei climbed from overnight tied 13th to
tied third with the help of a two-under 70 today. Ghei now
shares third place along with Mandeo Singh Pathania at even
par 216.
Arjun Singh Chaudhri and Vipin Kumar Sharma have
identical scores of one over 217 to be tied fifth.
