New Delhi: Indian archers clinched gold
medals in the recurve category to match the efforts of England
counterparts in the compound section on day three of the
International archery test event for the Commonwealth Games at
the Yamuna Sports Complex here on Thursday.
In the men's team recurve, the Indian trio of Tarudeep
Rai, Kapil and Champia Mangal Singh showcased great accuracy
and skill to defeat Malaysian opponents 218-211.
In the clash for the bronze medal, England defeated
Scotland 210-203.
It was a similar story in the women's team recurve
category as the Indian trio of Dola Banerjee, Rimil Buruily
and Bombayala Laishram put up a scintillating performance to
outclass the Malaysian team 204-190 for the gold medal.
The women's team from Singapore defeated Wales 190-183 to
finish the day with a bronze medal.
"The gold at the test event is a great boost to our
confidence as we gear up for the Commonwealth games in October
here. The windy conditions made the match tough today but
thanks to our training we could adjust to the conditions
swiftly," said an elated Tarundeep Rai of the triumphant
Indian men's recurve team.
In the compound final, the Indian ladies lost narrowly to
England after the teams were tied at 222. The tie was broken
with England shooting a perfect 30 against India's 25.
Earlier, the Indian men who lost to England by just a
whisker (225-226) in the compound semifinal, settled for the
bronze medal after a comfortable 224-205 triumph over Wales.
