Kolkata: Indians put up dismal show in the
45th World Archery Championship as both the men and women
teams failed to qualify for the knockout stage, at Ulsan,
South Korea today.
Indian men managed only 4047 points which earned them the
21st place out of 29 countries, while their women counterparts
finished last in a 21-strong field with 3891 points in their
kitty, a release said.
Only top 16 teams make it to the knockout stage of the
tournament.
Compound archers, nowhere near the world standard, found
going tough while national champion Chinna Raju Srither, who
finished at 48th place in a field of 111, was the best placed
Indian.
Srither scored 1359 points, while Jhano Hansdah was the
best Indian women occupying 51st place in a field of 83, with
1325 points.
The story was not much different for their compatriots.
Among men Chungda Sherpa (58th) and among women Manjudha
Soy (62nd) could not impress.
Youngest Indian Sarikonda Jayalakshmi finished 83rd.
