Indian powerlifters win two medals on 2nd day in world event Gurgaon: Indian powerlifters opened their campaign on a strong note by winning a silver and a bronze on the second day of the World Open Powerlifting Championships here today.

P Suresh won the silver medal in the 56kg category, while Rana Shyam Singh beat off stiff competition from compatriot Raja Vimal to clinch the bronze in the 60kg category.

Suresh lifted 627.5 kg to finish a distant second behind gold-winner Sergey Fedosienko (715kg) of Russia.

Shyam Singh and Vimal were tied at third with a total lift of 640 kg but the former won the bronze due to his lighter body weight.

Chinese Taipei's Hsieh Tsung-Ting won the gold in the 60kg category.
