Kolkata: India's medal hopes came crushing after suffering a defeat against China in the quarterfinals of the men's recurve team event of the 45th World Archery Championship at Ulsan, South Korea.
Indian trio of Rahul Banerjee, Mangal Singh Champia and Jayanta Talukdar, won the pre-quarterfinals against Malaysia 218-204 but sixth-seeded China proved too good as India's lost 55-54, 108-112, 163-168 and 216-221.
In the semifinals, however, China went down against second-seeded France and will now face Japan in the play-off for the bronze medal.
World champion Korea will take on France in the finals tomorrow.
