Singapore, July 03: India continued their good show in
the inaugural Asian Youth Games here by winning three more
gold on the fourth day on Friday.
Two gold came from athletics while the third yellow metal
came from swimming. With today's three gold, India's medal
tally swelled to five gold, three silver and two bronze.
Ravi Kumar won gold in boys' 800m final with a timing of
1:55.91secs. Amir (1:55.93) of Iran was second while E Herath
(1:56.33) of Sri Lanka was third.
Ravi, a class XI student, trains at Army Boys Sports
Company, a joint venture of Rajputana Rifles and SAI.
In the girls' 800m, Namita Kabat bagged gold, clocking
2:15.55secs, way ahead of Vietnam's Thin Than (2:20.43s).
"I was sure to win gold in the event and I did it," said
Namita after winning gold.
Today was the last day of athletics event and Indians
have won four gold, two silver and two bronze from the
discipline, the fourth best among the participating countries.
Aaron Agnel D'souza won the third gold of the day in the
boys' 200m Freestyle final. D'souza, who led from the start
till the finishing line, clocked 1:52.22 minutes.
Korea's Jong Won Yong clocked 1:52.80 minutes to win
silver while another Koreans Kwoon Oh Kook took the bronze
with a timing of 1.52.86 minutes.
In basketball, Indian boys lost to Singapore 24-34 in
Group D preliminary match while their girls counterparts also
went down 23-34 to China in a Group C match.
In beach volleyball, Indian boys failed to reach
quarterfinals as they lost 0-2 (17-21, 25-27) to Bahrain in
the single elimination round.
The Indians also did not do well in table tennis, losing
there to Singapore 0-2 in mixed team quarter-finals.
