Berlin: Michael Schumacher says he is calling off a much-anticipated Formula One comeback due to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident earlier this year.
Schumacher says he informed top Ferrari officials Monday night that he is unable to step in for injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, whom Schumacher was set to replace temporarily.
The seven-time champion says in a statement on his Web site that "the consequences of the injuries caused by the bike-accident in February, fractures in the area of head and neck, unfortunately have turned out to be still too severe."
The 40-year-old says his neck cannot yet stand up to the stresses caused by Formula One racing.
