Buenos Aires: Argentine Ruben Romano, a kidnap victim in Mexico in 2005, was named coach of Santos Laguna, the Mexican club said.
The 51-year-old replaces Sergio Bueno, sacked after Santos Laguna failed to qualify for the Apertura championship semi-finals last Sunday.
"It happened very quickly, there weren't many problems to reach an agreement," Romano told the club's website.
Romano, who has spent all his coaching career in Mexico after ending his playing career there, was at Cruz Azul in 2005 when he was kidnapped and spent 65 days as a captive of criminals seeking a ransom before being rescued by police.
