New Delhi: Archery Association of India President Vijay Kumar Malhotra today made his grievances public over the non-availability of home turf for archers to prepare for the Commonwealth Games next year.
Malhotra said with the Yamuna Sports complex lagging behind its schedule, players are having a difficult time as they have to run to other places for practicing which is hampering their preparation for big events like Senior Asian Championship and Commonwealth Games.
"Indian archery team doesn't enjoy the benefit of home ground as Yamuna Sports Complex is not ready for preparations. Government is lagging way behind their actual schedule," Malhotra said while presenting the half yearly report card of the AAI.
"Let's hope archers will get at least six months for preparations otherwise blame will be put on Association if not performed," he added.
Malhotra also said that players should be given daily allowances in advance before they embark on any international event.
"Daily allowance should be given in advance to the players before they embark on any international event. The provision to reimburse them after returning should be parted away with immediate effect as this serve no purpose," he said.
"What's the use of reimbursement when they don't have money when needed. Government should provide at least 80 per cent money in advance," he added.
