London: Manchester City signed midfielder Adam Johnson from Championship (second division) side Middlesbrough just before the transfer window closed.
City did not disclose the fee when they announced the move on their official website but media reports said it was around seven million pounds (USD 11.15 million).
"We are delighted Adam has chosen to come here," manager Roberto Mancini said. "He is a very good player with fantastic potential and as a club we are always keen to sign British talent."
Johnson, 22, who has agreed a contract with City until June 2014, played 19 games for England's under-21 team and scored four goals.
He also hit 13 goals in 96 appearances for Middlesbrough.
Sixth-placed City said Johnson would go straight into their squad for Saturday's Premier League game against Hull City.
