Lucknow: India's men's team booked a berth in the Champions Division of the 19th Asian Table Tennis
Championships on the virtue of their final match appearance
but the women team failed to cross the final hurdle here
today.
The men's team lost the final 2-3 to Korea but making the
final was enough to seal them a berth in the next stage, which
will begin tomorrow.
The men's team blanked Pakistan 3-0 in men's before
eliminating Iran 3-2 in semifinals.
The women team though could not move beyond the
semi-final stage, losing 0-3 to Thailand on the second day of
the prestigious event.
Korea and Thailand moved ahead from the women category to
join the top six countries from the last edition.
Indian eves began we as they thumped Macao 3-0 in the
quarterfinal but reigning national champion Kumaresan Shamini,
Mouma Das and Poulomi Ghatak could not do much against the
Thai players.
China, Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Singapore are
the six countries to have directly qualified for Champions
Division in both the men's and women's categories on the basis
of their 2007-edition results
