Kolkata: With a full-strength side at their disposal, local giants Mohun Bagan will be desperate for a win when they take on bottom-placed Sporting Clube de Goa in a 17th round I-League match at Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake here tomorrow.
Four points shy of leaders Mahindra United and Dempo SC,
last season's runner-up Mohun Bagan (25), who are currently
placed fifth on the table, will have to collect full points to
keep their title aspiration alive.
The match is equally important from Sporting's
perspective as there is a relegation threat looming large on
the Goans.
Mohun Bagan do not have any injury or card problem and
the foreigner duo of Jose Ramirez Barreto and Edeh Chidi would
look to bring back their old magic that had seen them thrash
Chirag United 5-1.
But the Brazilian ace did not have a good outing against
JCT in their last match, which the Ludhiana side had escaped
with a goalless draw after Barreto shot a penalty wide.
"It happens in football. Barreto is still the number one
shooter for Mohun Bagan when it comes to penalty," said new
Mohun Bagan coach Satyajit Chatterjee.
With 10 more rounds to go in the tournament, Chatterjee
knows the importance of a win at this stage.
