Berhampur: The Orissa Tennis Association has decided to establish a tennis complex here to promote the sport.
“We have asked the district administration for about two acres of land for the proposed complex, first of its kind in southern Orissa, Stayabrata Sahu, an official of the Orissa Tennis Association (OTA), said here on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Ganjam district administration had identified a place at Ambapua, on the outskirt of the town.
If the administration provides at least one acre of land, we are ready to start the proposed complex, Sahu, also the state's Transport commissioner, said.
Besides a Lawn Tennis ground, the proposed complex will have the facility to train coaches, he said.
Madhusudan Padhy, secretary of OTA said training to coaches is necessary as their number is low in the state.
Earlier only a few players were playing Tennis but now more and more youngsters aged between 12 and 14 years were interested in the game. A few players from Orissa also find place in the All India rank. “It's satisfactory”, he said.
