New Delhi: Indian hockey suffered another jolt, when six players of the current Indian team decided not to turn up for the national camp being held at Pune, a move which is being seen as a clear sign of revolt against current coach Jose Brasa.
Though officials scotched the rumours of any ‘problem’ within the team, it was learnt that there was complete breakdown in relationship with the coach.
Among the six players, Ignace Tirkey and Prabodh Tirkey are former India captains. The charges that are being levelled against the coach are that he has selected someone inexperienced as a captain, player who played only 10 international matches for India. Most of the players believe that the coach is encouraging the culture of favouritism within the team.
The other coaches, who are attached with the Indian team in different capacities, are also not happy with the coach as they alleged that their inputs are not taken before taking any important decision.
The latest controversy that came up in the hockey circle is the manner in which Sandeep Singh was removed as skipper of the team. The ‘autocratic’ decision did not go down well with the team members.
Players also alleged that the coach is trying to change their playing style completely and is also trying to tamper with their techniques.
