Pune: Rahul Bajaj turned in the day's best
card of four-under 67 to take a comfortable four-stroke lead
after the second round of the LG Western India Amateur golf
tournament here today.
Overnight tied for the lead, 23-year-old Bajaj fired as
many as six birdies against two bogeys in the second round to
total six-under 136 and stay four shots clear of second-placed
Rashid Khan, who carded an even-par 71.
Bangalore's Abhishek Jha who brought home a three-under
68 zoomed to the third place, while local boy Aditya
Bhandarkar (73) and Arshdeep Tiwana (75) is tied for the
fourth place.
"I had a really good round and I have been playing well.
I am happy with the 67 because the course is playing
difficult. I was two-under through nine and after the turn I
picked up four more birdies, but two bogeys pulled me back. It
is still a satisfactory round," said Bajaj.
Rashid made the turn one-under but three straight bogeys
on his back-nine drew him back before he knocked down a birdie
on the sixth and ninth to make amends.
The cut was declared at 16-over 158 and 42 amateurs made
it to the final two rounds at the Poona Club Golf Course here.
