Chandigarh: A total of 6,425 sportspersons
of different disciplines received the playing kits worth Rs
1.07 crore from the state government in Ludhiana on Monday.
Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal
attended the function, where the players were handed the kits
that included one tracksuit, shoes, playing accessories and a
bag, among other things.
Director of Sports Pargat Singh said the disciplines
covered are athletics, basketball, boxing, badminton,
equestrian, football, gymnastic, hockey, handball, judo,
kabbadi, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting
and wrestling.
On this occasion, Badal also inaugurated the Punjab
Hockey League that would be participated by more than 250
teams. The tournament would be held at Ludhiana, Jalandhar and
Amritsar.
Badal said that Punjab would also soon start a World
Kabbadi League on the pattern of Indian Premier League with a
prize money of Rs one crore.
