Worried about rains, no dengue threat to CWG 2010: Kalmadi Zeenews Bureau

Pune: Commonwealth Games 2010 Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi assured that the infrastructure for the mega-event was world class and there was no threat of dengue to the CWG Village while pondering over the worries amplified by the heavy rainfall in the capital.

“MCD and Delhi govt are trying to fight dengue,” he said. Kalmadi also said that it was the first time CWG events would be available for viewership across the globe, including USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand among others.

“The infrastructure is world-class, no threat from dengue although I’m worried about the rains,” Kalmadi told a press conference in his constituency Pune on Thursday. He also gave his version of the CWG expenditures and said that he and the OC were totally clean.

“I can give full explanation of 1,600 crore. Kalmadi alone does not have any power, all the decisions have been taken by a competent executive board. Infrastructure is not my business, only monitoring of the completion of the work comes under my job. No tender has been given by me,” Kalmadi said.

Talking about the Central Vigilance Committee report that had hinted wide-scale corruption in the expenditures of the Commonwealth, Kalmadi said, “CVC report is all on construction, not one line has been said about the CWG OC. Infrastructure is not my business.”
