Lucknow: At least 10 persons were killed, while several villages were cut-off from district headquarters, as major rivers continued to swell at many places in Uttar Pradesh since last evening, official sources said here on Monday.

While, four persons were killed in Barabanki district, three died in Sitapur and two deaths were reported from Gonda, as Ghagra and Saryu rivers continued to play havoc in one dozen districts of the state, they said.

According to the flood control room nearly 194 villages in eastern part of the state were hit by flood, of which 100 were marooned affecting nearly 10,000 families.

In Deoria about 100 villages were hit by flash flood overnight, sources said adding that one person was killed.

According to daily report of the Central Water Commission, Ghagra continued to play havoc in eastern district as the river was flowing above danger mark at Elgin Bridge (Barabanki), Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia district.

Traffic movement on national highway between Katra and Ayodhya was suspended due to rise in level of Ghagra, official sources said.

Though Sharda had started receding, it was still flowing at danger mark at Palliakalan and Sharda Nagar (both in Lakhimpur district), the report said.
