Srinagar/Jammu: The state government
ordered dismissal of about 130 house surgeons who did not
resume duties on October 26 and engaged specialists to cope
with heavy rush of patients as healthcare system in Jammu and
Kashmir remained paralysed for the 23rd day today due to the
strike by junior doctors.
The State Health and Medical education Department has
issued authorization to engage 28 specialist doctors including
gynaecologists, pediatricians, surgeons and anesthetists in a
bid to make healthcare facilities available to the needy, an
official spokesman said.
Acting tough, the department also directed principals
of Government Medical colleges in Srinagar and Jammu to
terminate tenure of appointments of about 130 house surgeons
who failed to resume duties yesterday as directed by the state
government.
The principals of GMCs have also been directed to take
further consequential action to fill up the resultant
vacancies forthwith.
Unperturbed by the action, the striking doctors held
protest demonstrations and held rallies within the complex of
the GMC hospitals in Srinagar and Jammu vowing to continue the
strike till their demands including implementation of the 6th
Pay Commission's recommendations were fulfilled.
Meanwhile, charging the state government with inability
to address the problems of doctors, PDP President Mehbooba
Mufti said instead of acting in a spirit of accommodation it
was using strong arm tactics which will further aggravate the
situation.
