Chennai: A total of 53 candidates have filed
nominations for the December 19 by-polls for Vandavasi and
Tiruchendur assembly constituencies, Election Commission said
on Wednesday.
Archrivals DMK and AIADMK besides the fledgling DMDK will
sweat it out in the by-polls, necessitated by the death of DMK
MLA SC Jayaraman at Vandavasi and resignation of former AIADMK
MLA Anitha R Radhakrishnan at Tiruchendur.
As many as 20 persons have filed their nominations for
Vandavasi till Wednesday, the last day of nominations, the EC
said in a release here.
Thirtythree persons have filed nominations in Tiruchendur.
After boycotting a previous by-polls for five
Assembly constituencies in the state in August, principal
opposition party AIADMK joined the fray this time.
J Kamalakannan (DMK), P Munuswamy (AIADMK) and N
Janarthanan of DMDK are among a host of candidates who have
filed nominations for the Vandavasi (SC) constituency while
Radhakrishnan (DMK), Amman T Narayanan (AIADMK) and A Ganesan
of the DMDK are in the fray in Tiruchendur.
