7 more deaths due to H1N1 in Gujarat, toll reaches 155

Ahmedabad: Swine flu claimed seven more lives in Gujarat over the last few days, taking the death toll due to the deadly virus in the state to 155, while 20 others, including two infants, tested positive for the H1N1 virus, health officials said here on Sunday.

According to officials, three persons succumbed to swine flu infection on Saturday. While one Jitendra Chauhan (42) died at civil hospital in Ahmedabad, Shobhana Morani (42) passed away at civil hospital in Rajkot and Kashiben Babhi (50) at Bhuj civil hospital in Kutch district.

Meanwhile, four deaths, which include three who died on January 8 at a civil hospital in Rajkot and one person who died at a hospital in Ahmedabad on January 7, were also reported yesterday, they said.

Twenty more people have tested positive for the H1N1 virus from different parts of the state like Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Vadodara, Surat, Junagadh, Amreli, Banaskantha and Bhuj.

Those infected with H1N1 virus in Bhavnagar include two infants, a girl who is 11 months old and a one-year-old boy.

With this, the total swine flu cases in the state have gone up to 888.

Out of the 155 people who died due to swine flu in the state, eight persons belonged to Rajasthan who had come here for treatment.
