Jamshedpur: At least eight labourers were on Sunday injured, one of them seriously, when a cable burst in a mini plant in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.

The power cable, illegally wired with a transformer to supply electricity to Himadari Steel Private Ltd at Chakulia, suddenly exploded injuring eight labourers, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Ghatsila), Anup Birtheray said.

JMM MLA Bidyut Baran Mahto, however, claimed at least 11 labourers were injured in the explosion and seven of them were being brought to Tata Main hospital here. Four of the injured were shifted to a hospital in Dalbhumgarh, he said.

The owner of the factory did not inform police about the incident. Strict action will be taken against the rolling mill owner as well as officials concerned of Jharkhand State Electricity Board, Birtheray said.
