Jammu: As many as 92.26 lakh mandays have
been generated under the UPA's flagship rural employment
guarantee scheme in Jammu and Kashmir during the current
fiscal, the state Assembly was informed Saturday.
Replying to a cut motion moved by the opposition, rural
development minister Ali Mohmmad Sagar said Mahatama Gandhi
National Rural Employment Guarantee Act is a demand-driven
scheme wherein targets depend upon the demand of work by
registered job cards holders.
The highest number of 13.72 lakh mandays were generated
in Doda district followed by 13.20 lakh mandays in Kishtwar
district, he said.
NREGA, a Centre-sponsored scheme, was launched in Jammu
and Kashmir in February 2006, initially in Doda, Poonch and
Kupwara.
