Jammu: As many as 92.26 lakh mandays have been generated under the UPA's flagship rural employment guarantee scheme in Jammu and Kashmir during the current fiscal, the state Assembly was informed Saturday.

Replying to a cut motion moved by the opposition, rural development minister Ali Mohmmad Sagar said Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act is a demand-driven scheme wherein targets depend upon the demand of work by registered job cards holders.

The highest number of 13.72 lakh mandays were generated in Doda district followed by 13.20 lakh mandays in Kishtwar district, he said.

NREGA, a Centre-sponsored scheme, was launched in Jammu and Kashmir in February 2006, initially in Doda, Poonch and Kupwara.
