Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Wednesday night
suspended STF chief Ashok Sheoron, a day after he was arrested
in connection with an alleged extortion and dacoity racket.
Sheoron, an Additional Superintendent of Police, who was
arrested in Panipat yesterday, had been placed under
suspension, an official release said here.
Earlier in the day, Panipat's Chief Judicial Magistrate
Gagandeep Kaur sent Sheoron to five-day police custody.
Seven STF personnel, including two assistant
sub-inspectors, have already been arrested in connection with
alleged racket.
The STF, comprising 15 personnel, was constituted in 2007
and tasked to track down notorious criminals and check
organised crime in the state.
