New Delhi: Terming the incident as "grave", a court here has dismissed the bail plea of a man who is accused of throwing acid on two sisters who lost their vision in the attack.

"In view of the circumstances in which the offence has been committed, the bail application of the accused is dismissed," Additional Sessions Judge S K Sarvaria said.

Afroj and co-accused Shabir, who has not been arrested so far, had thrown acid on two sisters at Jakir Nagar locality in south Delhi on October 14 when the victims were going to a nearby market on a rickshaw.

While dismissing the bail application of Afroj, the court took into consideration the photographs showing burnt faces of the victims who were undergoing treatment in a hospital here.

The prosecutor said the girls have lost their eyes in the incident and the accused did not deserve to be released on bail at the moment when the probe was in its nascent stage. The plea was accepted by the court.

The accused were riding a motorcycle while allegedly throwing acid on the victims.

An FIR under various provisions of the IPC dealing with attempt to murder and causing grevious hurt was lodged at Jamia Nagar police station against the accused.

While Afroj was apprehended, the other accused is absconding.
