Lucknow: With a view to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram beginning December 19, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police on Thursday issued necessary directives to all the district police chiefs asking them to alert intelligence units to ward-off terrorists and anti-national elements from spoiling peace and order.
Home department sources here said that besides providing
additional companies of PAC and RAF to sensitive districts
like Meerut, Lucknow, Sahranpur, Kanpur, Allahabad, Aligarh,
Agra, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Devi Patan, Varanasi, Mau, Azamgarh
among others, DGP has also asked to undertake special vigil
during this period.
Police heads were asked to alert subordinate staff in
view of the sensitivity and past history in mind, sources said
adding that they were asked to identify the trouble areas,
where any such incidents had taken place in the past.
The Tazia and Muharram processions should be allowed
only through identified routes and police chiefs should send a
report by December 12 that they have complied with all the
directives, sources said adding that wherever any dispute
persists they should take preventive action.
