Midnapore (WB): Suspected Maoists on Saturday night
killed a CPI(M) leader in West Midnapore, a day after gunning
down two party members, as the killing spree by the Naxalites
virtually continued unabated in the area.
Police said the CPI(M)'s Kalmapukuria local committee
Secretary and zilla parishad member Bhagbat Singh (45) was
shot at inside his room around 9:40 pm.
Singh was rushed to the local health centre in
critical condition and died shortly afterwards.
Suspecting Maoist involvement in the murder, a senior
police officer said the same group also ransacked a liquor
shop in the area and looted Rs two lakh.
Only yesterday, the Naxalites shot dead two CPI-M
members at Belapahari after trying them in a 'kangaroo' court
on charges of providing information to the police.
Kunaram Singha, 45 and Ananda Singha, 42, both
residents of Balichua village, were called out of their homes
by some armed persons and taken to the forest before being
shot dead.
Also, in continuing arson in the district, members of
Maoist-backed People's Committee against Police Atrocities set
fire to three trucks at Amlasole and Bulanpur today in protest
against alleged attack on 'innocent tribals' by the police.
