Varanasi: Facing nearly two dozen cases, jailed BSP MLA Mukhtar Ansari has been booked again, this time for the murder of the lone eyewitness in another case of killing against the legislator.
Ramsingh Maurya was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants before the RTO office of Mau district, 125 kilometers from here, last evening, Superintendent of Police, Mau, Ajay Mohan Sharma said.
While Ramsingh died on the spot, police constable Satish Kumar suffered bullet injuries and has been admitted to a hospital.
A resident of Naraibandh colony in Mau, Ramsingh was the lone eyewitness in the murder of PWD contractor Manna Singh in August last year for which Ansari has been charged. On the basis of a complaint by family members of Ramsingh, an FIR of murder and conspiracy has been registered against Ansari, Hanuman Pandey and three others.
Sharma said that the body has been sent for autopsy and an investigation was on.
Driver Shabbir and Shekhar, who accompanied Ramsingh, are also being interrogated.
BSP leader Mukhtar Ansari is lodged in Ghazupur jail, since 2005 in the BJP MLA Krishnanad Rai murder case. He is facing nearly two dozen cases, including murder, attempt to murder and extortion.
