Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government failed to obtain the promised funds from the Centre to help the farmers of the state hit by drought and massive floods, BJP alleged here on Tuesday.

"You have declared that the losses due to floods and drought in the state is to the tune of Rs 22,000 crore. Over 1,000 mandals in the state have been declared as drought hit. Prime Minister and Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited the state. They promised generous help. But it has not materialised," state BJP president B Dattatreya said in a letter to Chief Minister K Rosaiah.

Quoting media reports, Dattatreya said as many as 45 cotton farmers have committed suicide in Adilabad district alone.

The promised financial assistance for farmers who have suffered crop losses has not materialised yet, he said.

The government should provide immediate financial help to the farmers and also waive and re-schedule certain bank loans, Dattatreya demanded.
