Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD MLAs on Friday
criticised the Union Finance minister, Pranab Mukherjee in
Orissa assembly for rise in the prices of petrol and diesel
while Congress blamed the state government for failing to
control hoarding of commodities.
The issue was raised in the assembly during zero hour
by BJD MLA Kalpataru Das who sought passing of a resolution
against price rise.
"We too demand roll back of increase in the price of
diesel and petrol," Das said adding that union finance
minister had increased the prices of disel and petrol while
prices of foodgrains were on the rise.
Stating that the union budget-2010 had withdrawn
stimulus package on foodgrain, Das said this would help
escalating prices of essential commodities.
Das was supported by all members from the treasury
bench who strongly criticised the finance minister for
allegedly ignoring the interest of Orissa in the budget.
Congress Chief Whip Prasad Harichandan and others from
the opposition bench on the other hand blamed the state
government for not taking action against hoarders.
While PDS had completely failed, the government had
left the poor people at the hands of hoarders, Harichandan
said.
