New Delhi: The BJP on Monday have a call for a
'Delhi bandh' on November 13 to protest the "skyrocketing
prices" of essential commodities and the "abnormal hike" in
bus fares in the city.
"We have decided to observe a Delhi bandh on November 13
to protest against the abnormal bus fare hike as well as
skyrocketing prices of essential commodities," Delhi BJP
president O P Kohli told reporters.
He appealed to all the Resident Welfare Associations,
businessmen and the common people to support the 'bandh' to
oppose "anti-people" policies of the Delhi Government.
"Delhi Government has become so insensitive towards
the common people. The life of a common man has become so
difficult in the city," he said.
Cong wants review of bus fare hike
Delhi Government's decision to
increase the bus fare in the national capital has not gone
down well with the city unit of the ruling Congress which
today demanded a review of the hike.
In a veiled criticism of the Government on the issue,
DPCC chief J P Aggarwal said "in some slabs the fare has been
increased abnormally."
"Government is making huge investment to procure new
buses and modernise the transport system. But still I think it
is (the fare hike) a bit more," he told reporters here.
Seeking a review of the hike, he said, "I am confident
that there will be a review of the decision."
The Government had last week increased the bus fare
across all slabs to meet the revenue shortfall of the Delhi
Transport Corporation.
However, Aggarwal slammed the BJP for coming to the
streets to oppose the fare hike as well as rise in prices of
essential commodities.
