Raipur: The ruling BJP has done well in the civic body elections in Chhattisgarh, winning six out of nine municipal corporations.

Official sources said BJP won in muncipal corporations of Durg, Raigarh, Ambikapur, Chirmiri, Korba and Jagdalpur, while the Congress bagged Raipur, Bilaspur and Ranjnandgaon.

Elsewhere in the elections to muncipal councils and nagar panchayats also, the party has done well though details are still awaited.

Counting, which began yesterday, is taking longer time as conventional ballot papers were used instead of electronic voting machines.

In 26 municipal councils, BJP won in 12 while Congress got 9 and others bagged the remaining 5.

In Nagar Panchayat, out of 119, BJP got 53, Congress 33 and others 33.
