Jaipur: BJP MLA Hanuman Prasad Beniwal was
today suspended from Rajasthan assembly for "unruly behaviour"
as opposition members created a ruckus in the House accusing
the state government of helping the liquor mafia and causing
three adjournments of the proceedings.
The motion for Beniwal's suspension was passed by voice
vote after the state assembly was plunged into din with BJP
members including Leader of Opposition (acting) G S Tiwari
shouting slogans against the state government charging it with
serving the interests of the liquor mafia.
Trouble began during Zero Hour when Beniwal hurled the
charge of tax revision benefiting the liquor mafia against the
state government.
Home minister Shanti Dhariwal interrupted the BJP MLA
asking him to produce evidence and raise the issue in the
House as per proper legislative procedures. After trading
charges with Dhariwal for a while Beniwal rushed into the well
of the House with other party members in tow.
As nothing could be heard in the din the assembly was
adjourned for the first time for an hour.
When the Assembly reassembled, angry BJP legislators
led by Beniwal did not let the House take up any scheduled
business causing yet another adjournment.
When the proceedings resumed the BJP members began
shouting again alleging that the liquor policy of the
government had also led to rise in crime and gang wars in
Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Ganganagar districts causing yet another
adjournment of an hour.
The motion passed by the House accused Beniwal of
flouting the Chair's orders, making baseless charges and
indulging in unruly behaviour and sought his suspension for
the rest of the assembly's current session.
