Mumbai: Providing relief to the distilleries which would receive incentives from the Maharashtra government for producing liquor from food grains, the Bombay High Court today dismissed the PIL against the scheme.

Saying that there was no merit in the PIL filed by social activist Chetan Kamble, the division bench of Justices F I Rebello and J H Bhatia also lifted the earlier stay to disbursal of subsidy to distilleries.

The government's scheme to provide incentives to distilleries producing liquor from food grains had drawn a lot of flak from Opposition parties in the state.

Advocate Uday Warunjikar, appearing for petitioner, had argued that the move would create food grains scarcity and worsen the inflation.
