Kolkata: The safety of abducted police officer Atindranath Dutta would be kept in mind while securing his release, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee told his family on Wednesday.
"I have listened to you carefully and I have everything in mind. The government will act to get the officer released and his safety and security will be properly considered," the officer's brother-in-law, Sanjiv Dutta, told reporters quoting Bhattacharjee.
Dutta's wife Indrani, their two-year-old daughter Oindrakshi and his parents today met Bhattacharjee at the state secretariat for an hour and requested him to ensure the
safe release of the police officer.
Sanjiv said "we have apprised the chief minister of Kishenji's demands".
Kishenji had yesterday made a phone call to Indrani asking her to meet the Chief Minister and place his demand that women arrested by the joint forces during anti-Maoist operations in West Midnapore district should be released immediately.
"We are satisfied with the assurance given by the Chief Minister," Sanjiv said, adding "we hope that Kishenji will also keep his word that their hostage is safe."
Dutta, the officer-in-charge of Sankrail police station in West Midnapore district, was taken hostage by Maoists who killed two other police officers -- second officer Dibakar
Bhattacharya and assistant sub-inspector Swapan Roy – besides looting a nearby SBI branch.
