Bhopal: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram
has assured former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay
Singh that he would take up the issue of open display of
weapons by some organisations during religious processions
with the state government.
Singh had recently urged Chidambaram to intervene on the
issue of reports of open display of weapons by some
organisations during religious processions and functions, a
press release issued by Singh's office said here today.
On Vijayadashmi function organised by RSS in Bhopal, an
activist of the right-wing died due to firing of a bullet, it
said.
Chidambaram also informed Singh after a probe that in
Chhindwara district some organisations have distributed
sharp-edged weapons among its members.
"It appears that there is some sort of a competition
going on between various groups to display weapons during
religious festivals in the state," he said.
Expressing concern over such matters, Chidambaram assured
Singh to write a letter to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister
Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the issue.
