Chennai: The bail petition of a Dutch
national, arrested here recently for uploading material on
child sexual abuse on the Internet, was dismissed by a court
on Thursday.
The magistrate "was not inclined" to grant bail since
investigation was in its preliminary stages, Ravikumar,
counsel for accused William Heum, told reporters.
Meanwhile, Additional Public Prosecutor D L Raja said
bail was denied considering the seriousness of the case.
Heum was remanded to 15-day judicial custody yesterday
after his police custody ended.
The Dutch national, staying in India for the past 30
years, was arrested on November 7 from a house at Choolaimedu
area here, after an Interpol alert said he was uploading child
pornographic content on the Internet.
A computer hard disc, laptop and other accessories
were seized from his possession.
Heum, who was charged under different sections of the
IT (Amendment Act) 2008, claimed before investigators that he
was a social worker.
