Srinagar: Baramulla town in Jammu and
Kashmir witnessed clashes for the third consecutive day on Sunday
with youths indulging in stone-hurling on the security forces
and demanding release of those detained while protesting
against alleged human rights violations in the state.
Groups of youths indulged in stone-hurling at police and
CRPF at two places in Baramulla, 55 kms from here, early in
the day.
The security forces fired rubber bullets, burst teargas
shells and used batons to disperse the violent mob, police
said, adding four persons were injured in the clashes which
were still continuing.
One Mohammad Ishaq Lone was allegedly hit by a rubber
bullet and was shifted here for treatment, sources said.
Police had rounded up over 12 youths yesterday and the
locals have threatened to continue the agitation if they were
not released.
Barring Baramulla, life returned to normalcy in Kashmir
after a day-long separatist sponsored general strike and
violent protests yesterday, officials said.
This is for the third consecutive day that violent
clashes disrupted normal life in Baramulla town, where over 12
people, including six policemen, were injured in the clashes
during the strike called by hardline faction of Hurriyat
Conference against alleged human rights violations in the
state.
On Friday, groups of youth clashed with police in
the town soon after the prayers.
