New Delhi: With less than a week left for the deadline set by the Telangana Joint Action Committee, Congress leaders from the region today stepped up pressure on the party high command and the Centre for initiating the process of formation of a separate state.

State congress chief D Srinivas, who hails from Telangana, met party president Sonia Gandhi and apprised her of the situation in the region which has recently witnessed violence and several bandhs on the issue.

Party MPs from the region also came to the state capital ahead of the January 28 deadline set by the JAC for the formation of Telangana. AICC has so far remained non-committal on the issue of formation of a mechanism to deal with the contentious issue by that date.

A delegation of 10 Telangana MPs met Defence Minister A K Antony and demanded that the Centre expedites the process of formation of Telangana state.

"We met Antony and briefed him about the situation in the state, particularly the Telangana region. We told him that the Centre should expedite the process of formation of Telangana," Andhra Congress MPs Forum Convener Ponnam Prabhakar said.

He also hoped that there will be some good news from the Centre on the issue as Home Minister P Chidambaram had on January 5 said that the government will formulate a response based on the all-party meeting on the issue.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the Congress Core Group was held this evening attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, party chief Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister P Chidambaram.

Srinivas met Gandhi at her residence here and explained to her the situation in the Telangana region.

"I briefed madam about the situation and the suicides in connection with the Telangana issue," he told reporters after the meeting. Srinivas said Gandhi asked the state party leaders to appeal to the people to be calm over the issue.

Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said Telangana is a "sensitive and complicated" issue.

"The Home Minister has made an initiative to bring people together to discuss the problem. Nobody should do anything that affects the process to bring peace," he told the daily briefing.

Meanwhile, Nizamabad MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi has sent a reply to the party high command on the showcause notice issued to him for "deliberately lowering party's prestige".

GETTING ATTENTION IN MEDIA IS THE MAIN TARGET OF T-ACTIVISTS FOR LURE OF EASY MONEY``-It is easy money in the name of T to the students/outsider groups of activists that has kept alive the movement from nov09.

People can observe all activities giving scope of publicity/attention in the media are mainly targeted are grabbed by the T-activists.

The lure of easy money is even not awakening the university students from their responsibility of completing exams & courses. Ultimately purpose of getting degrees is to earn for living that is taken care of by sponsors invisible hands to common man, hence T-movement is not subsiding.

Let`s pray the junior college and school exams do not suffer. since university students and T-activists are also having social responsibility towards their younger generation kids, brothers & sisters education.
unless the easy money for T-activities does not evaporate the movement will continue unabated, since the public representatives are directly involved in the T-Issue.

The JAC should see that all the public living in hyderabad and telengana disitricts should come on the street to show the strength for the fight of Telanagana, With much more public support i feel that centre will also expedite for a seperate statehood. This is the right time for the people of telangana to show their unity for the formation of telanana state.

We people born in hyderabad want Telangana state to be created as soon as possible. It`s okay if people from other regions like Andhra want to stay but the state should be divided. Telangana generates 60-70% of total AP revenue only 28% is spent back in Telangana. If we have separate Telangana state, Hyderabad would be world class city in a short time because most of that revenue will be spent back in Hyderabad. Anyone who thinks hyd. money should be spent in andhra also, there are maratis, gujarati, punjabi`s etc in hyd. who helped in development of hyd, so you want the hyderabad money to be spent in gujarat, punjab etc? Telangana police should join Telangana movement. This would bring lot of confidence to students and they would not resort to suicides. Telangana police please consider joining telangana movement. Telangana JAC should organise Chalo Hyderabad with 50 lakh or more Telangana people. Nothing should move in Hyderabad then Centre would come to us.
