Bhopal: Congress on Tuesday staged a walkout from
the state assembly after its demand for a judicial probe into
the alleged irregularities in allotment of mines to a company
in Katni district was not taken up for discussion.
The matter was raised by Congress Deputy Leader in the
House, Choudhry Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi, who alleged that the
then collector had under pressure awarded mining lease to
Goenka brothers' relatives without realising Rs three crore
royalty from them.
He said it was a serious issue and therefore, the
government should order a judicial probe or an inquiry by a
House panel on the matter.
Replying to the demands, Mineral Resources and Energy
Minister Rajendra Shukla informed the House that the
government has already taken the issue seriously and suspended
the then collector for irregularities in the case.
The minister, however, said there was no need for further
probe by any other panel in the matter.
Dissatisfied with the minister's reply, the Opposition
led by Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi staged a walkout from
the House during the Question Hour in protest.
