Bhabua: Nine policemen, including an officer
were suspended for seeking graft from truck drivers to enter
Bihar with overladen vehicles.
Bhabua police superintendent P K Srivastava said one
assistant sub-inspector and eight police constables were
suspended after truck drivers blocked G T Road here for over
six hours to protest against police taking graft at Chipli
check post along Bihar-Uttar Pradesh borders.
Trouble broke out earlier in the day when a truck driver
from Amritsar was stopped at the check-post and was asked to
pay a graft of Rs 500 to allow the vehicle to enter Bihar.
As the driver agreed to pay only Rs 100, a group of about
6 policemen led by the ASI brutally thrashed him and the
cleaner. Following this the truck drivers blocked the highway
and raised anti-police slogans.
The road blockade was withdrawn with sub-divisional
officer S M Qaisar Sultan and deputy superintendent of police,
Pankaj Sinha assuring the truck drivers of action against the
guilty policemen.
