Jhargram/Midnapore (WB): A CPI(M) worker was
shot dead by Maoist ultras in Belpahari area of West Midnapore
district this evening, police said.
A group of Maoists raided the house of Baren Singh (45)
at Gohalbera village at about 7.30 PM, dragged him out and
fired at him from close range.
He died on the spot, sources said.
Union Minister Sisir Adhikari claimed that a local leader
of the Trinamool Congress, who was kidnapped on February 5,
has also been shot dead by the Maoists in Salboni area.
Jaggeswar Mahto, the upa-pradhan of Satpati gram
panchayat under Salboni police station, was abducted by
Maoists and he was shot dead inside Bhadutola forest, the
Union Minister of State for Rural Development claimed.
However, his body was not found and the district
administration said it did not have any such information.
Meanwhile, personnel of the joint forces and suspected
Maoists had a brief exchange of fire near the Dharampur camp
of the force tonight, official sources said.
The ultras fired four-five rounds towards the camp and
the securitymen retaliated, following which the attackers
fled, the sources said.
